Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies
The journal supports the responsible integration of generative artificial intelligence technologies into scholarly activity, recognising their potential to enhance the quality of communication and improve research processes. At the same time, the use of such tools must adhere to ethical norms established by international standards – in particular, the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), WAME, JAMA Network, ICMJE recommendations, the requirements of the EU AI Act, the Concept of AI Development in Ukraine, and the Law of Ukraine "On Academic Integrity".
For authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to the journal Kyiv Musicology are required to declare the use of generative AI and/or AI-assisted technologies in accordance with the principles outlined below.
Artificial intelligence tools may be used solely as auxiliary instruments, in particular for: checking grammar, spelling, and stylistic accuracy of the text; structuring the material (logical organization of sections, paragraphs, etc.); preliminary data analysis and visualization of results; searching for scholarly sources for familiarization with the research topic.
Prohibited use of generative AI and/or AI-assisted technologies for:
- generating the main content of the manuscript, including abstracts, literature reviews, results or conclusions.
- fabrication, simulation, or manipulation of research data.
- creating or modifying images, graphs, or illustrations, unless this is an integral part of the research and is transparently described.
Authors must state (in the DECLARATIONS section) which tools were used, for which tasks, and the extent to which they influenced the handling of text or data. Declaring the use of these technologies promotes transparency and trust between authors, readers, reviewers, and editors, and helps ensure compliance with the terms of use of the relevant tool or technology.
If no artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies were used during the writing process, the following must be stated: "The authors declare that no artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies were used in the preparation of this manuscript."
Generative artificial intelligence cannot be credited as a co-author and bears no responsibility for the article’s content – this responsibility lies solely with the authors.
The use of AI does not release authors from full responsibility for the content, accuracy, originality, and scientific novelty of the submitted material.
For reviewers
Reviewers should not use generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies to assist in the scientific review of an article, as the critical thinking and original assessment required for peer review are beyond the scope of this technology, and there is a risk that this technology will lead to incorrect, incomplete, or biased conclusions about the manuscript. The reviewer is responsible for the content of the review.
AI may only be used for technical support in preparing the review text – for example, for language refinement – and only if the content of the manuscript is not disclosed to the artificial intelligence system.
Use of AI by the Journal Editorial Office
The journal’s editorial office may use artificial intelligence tools as auxiliary means for performing certain technical and administrative tasks, including formatting of materials, stylistic checking, and textual similarity analysis. All such tools are applied under the direct supervision of the editorial team, and final decisions regarding publication are made with due consideration of the scholarly quality of the materials and compliance with editorial standards.
Responsibilities of the parties
All decisions regarding the reliability, scientific significance, and publication of materials rest with the author and the editorial board. The authors and the editorial office are responsible for the ethics, objectivity, and scientific value of the published materials.
