The aim of the study was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the acute toxicity parameters of the veterinary disinfectant preparation «Sekobren» (1000 mg/L sodium hypochlorite) under the conditions of an acute experiment. The study was performed on 40 white Wistar rats of both sexes with a body weight of 120–220 g. The animals were divided into four groups of 10 individuals each. The preparation was administered intragastrically once in volumes of 5 mL (Group II), 10 mL (Group III), and 15 mL (Group IV). The control group received 5 mL of 0.9 % sodium chloride solution. Daily clinical monitoring of the general condition of the animals, body weight dynamics, body temperature, respiratory rate, and heart rate was carried out for 15 days. On the 15th day, hematological and biochemical blood parameters and organ weight coefficients were determined. Statistical processing of the results was performed using methods of variation statistics with Microsoft Excel and STATISTICA 10.0 software. It was established that the administration of «SEKOBREN» at the studied doses was not accompanied by animal mortality, inadequate behavioral reactions, or pronounced clinical signs of intoxication. Body weight dynamics were positive in all groups. In Groups II and III, a statistically significant increase in the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and leukocytes was observed, indicating the development of adaptive-compensatory reactions. In Group IV, a significant increase in the erythrocyte intoxication index was noted. Analysis of the protein spectrum of blood serum showed a dose-dependent increase in the albumin fraction and a decrease in γ-globulins. The study of internal organ weight coefficients revealed compensatory-hyperplastic changes in the liver, kidneys, and heart, most pronounced in Groups III and IV. The obtained results allow us to conclude that the preparation «SEKOBREN», when administered intragastrically in doses up to 15 mL per animal, does not cause the development of pronounced acute toxicity. The detected changes are predominantly of an adaptive-compensatory nature and remain within the limits of the organism’s physiological adaptation. This indicates the relative safety of the preparation and substantiates the prospects for its further study and use as a universal disinfectant and antiseptic agent in veterinary practice.
